Hope Beyond the Diagnosis
Don’t Face Breast Cancer Alone.
Let AdventHealth Guide You Every Step of the Way.
At AdventHealth Cancer Care, our comprehensive breast care program starts with prevention through mammography screening. For those who have been diagnosed, we combat the disease using state-of-the-art technologies and procedures.
Fast Facts
About one in eight women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, making it the most diagnosed cancer among women and their second leading cause of death. It is a disease in which cancer cells form in breast tissue and can spread to surrounding areas. The good news is that with early detection and treatment, most patients can lead normal lives.
Symptoms
Often, there are no symptoms of breast cancer because lumps may be too small to feel or may not cause any other noticeable changes. Sometimes, the first sign may be a mass that shows up on a mammogram. Patients should talk to their physicians about anything unusual such as breast swelling, breast pain, nipple discharge or lumps under the arms. Patients with a family history of breast cancer are more likely to develop the disease.
Diagnosis and Staging
Breast cancer is diagnosed through physical exams, mammograms ultrasounds and MRIs, and tissue biopsies. Once diagnosed, physicians may use many types of tools to determine how far the cancer has progressed. These tools may include the same ones used to diagnose the disease, as well as blood tests, bone scans, and CT/PET scans.
Multidisciplinary Cancer Care
Our multidisciplinary breast cancer care team brings together a group of health care professionals in different disciplines with appropriate skills to consider the most appropriate, effective treatment and care options. They develop the best care plan for you together, rather than each specialist seeing you individually to give their opinion. The team considers all of your medical, physical and supportive care needs, along with other factors that may affect you. This team effort is designed to create the most efficient care and reduces delays in treatment and referral to vital services.
Treatments
Breast cancer treatment most often includes surgery, radiation or chemotherapy, or a combination of these therapies. At AdventHealth Cancer Care, we utilize the most advanced procedures available for each of these therapies. We offer breast conservation and mastectomy procedures, and will also coordinate breast reconstruction surgery if needed. We specialize in lumpectomies, mastectomies, and lymph node removal if breast cancer has spread outside the milk duct. Through our Patient Care Navigator program, we assist patients at every step of their treatment processes.
